Instant Quick Fixes

Quite a lot of people suggest trying writing exercises to free your brain up. I feel that often, this is taxing you even more. I am not convinced that when suffering from writer's block the best thing to do is tax your brain even more. The idea of free writing is perhaps a lot closer to what you need to be doing - that is if you are able to do this without putting extra pressure on yourself. Often when in this situation, it can be difficult to try any free writing as at this stage, it just doesn't flow. If you can do something altogether different to give yourself a breather and then try to free-write this might be the best instant fix for you and may help you to focus. Go for a walk or give yourself a change of scenery, but make sure before you leave you give yourself a totally clear desk to come back to - perhaps even with a white piece of paper on the desk and a pencil and that is it! When you sit down just let your mind take you where it wants to and give yourself half an hour of writing like this. Don't spend too much time on this because you will begin to feel unsettled again, as you won't be achieving what you want to for the day.

Another quick fix solution for you, to help you focus on the problem, is to outline what you want to achieve tomorrow. Take each day at a time and plan it the day before. Make your goals smaller than before and gradually increase these - don't ever increase these to the point of work overload, otherwise, you will find yourself in the same situation - plan realistically and remember this is all so that tomorrow, at the end of the day, you will feel a sense of productive achievement.
